Love as a philosophy: Random thought

2023-11-12

The other day, I was reading one of those "introductory books" some editors will sell as a simple way to condense information of a topic in a way beginners can understand. Their quality can vary from title to title, but generally speaking you can get some good starting points out of them for study or whatnot.

The book I was reading was about philosophy. I read these books often because I have caught myself thinking a lot about the universe we live in, the way we have organized ourselves in it, and the ways you and I have developed in it and ways to do so in a better way.

In any case, one of the exceprts that was studied was about the teachings of Mo Tse, an ancient Chinese philosopher, and his teachings were based around the concept that an ideal society is based on the concept of love, since we are strong together and helping each other and everything that is alive, is a fundamentally benevolent way of life.

So far in my life I had not been educated on this way of thought existing, and I find that a shame, because this philosophic conclusion is one I really can get behind. Despite everything that humanity has proven it can hurt, it has also proven that we can love, and this is a strength that is a lot more powerful that it lets on, at least to me.
